There were three African American students enrolled in Harper ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 50% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Harper ISD schools welcomed 560 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 0.5% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Harper ISD roughly covers schools within Gillespie County and has a main office in Harper.

Among the three schools in Harper ISD schools, Harper Middle School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2021-22 school year, with a total of two students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
